Join Corinne Rollolazo for a weekend of Esalen Massage - a presence based massage practice that was created at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur in the late 1960s
Self-inquiry sets this modality apart from other bodywork. Rooted in self-awareness practices and meditative movement, the Esalen practitioner’s attunement within themselves translates to a subtle yet powerful quality of touch. This approach of “being met” vs. “being worked on” ultimately brings both the client and practitioner into a deep state of mutual stillness.
In this introductory workshop we begin with centering and grounding practices that teach us to slow down, pause, and be present with ourselves and one another. The mornings will begin with gentle movement and meditation that are revisited throughout the weekend. Through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice, we will explore breath and contact, the signature Esalen “long stroke,” how to create a safe, respectful space, and how to listen and take care of ourselves while giving and receiving a massage session.
This workshop gives both beginner and experienced practitioners an opportunity to inquire into themselves with Esalen’s pace, presence, and pause: “the listening hand.” Don’t be surprised if you come away realizing you like giving a classic Esalen massage as much as you like receiving one. All who are interested in cultivating greater self-awareness and self-care are welcome (not just massage therapists)! Anyone who uses therapeutic touch in their daily lives such as medical professionals, caregivers, doulas, energy workers and beyond are encouraged to register.
This workshop provides 12 hours of hands-on CE credit. This course is certified through the NCBTMB and satisfies the requirements of the Georgia Massage Board for license renewal for Georgia LMTs. The cost is $230 per person.
